There's a distinct difference between 'accidents' (e.g. Steve Irwin being killed by a stingray) and say terrorist attacks.
I have no problem with racist jokes as long as they are not meant to insult the person who they are referring to. As long as the person doesn't mind then so be it - everyone gets the piss taken out of them sometimes, people should just learn to get used to it. I agree with this world becoming too PC (for example Gingerbread men are now called Gingerbread people... yeah like that has the same ring to it). If/when I bring up children I won't let them be fooled by the current crap in today's society which is just being picky for the sake of it.
In my opinion there is a clear line to be drawn between taking the piss out of thousands of people dying in a terrorist attack and one person dying in an accident. The same applies for racist and handicap jokes - these people weren't put in that position by anyone else (OK, maybe some people where handicapped because of other people's actions, but you don't hear many jokes about people causing other people to be handicapped). The fact that thousands of people died in the World Trade Center due to the actions of people who specifically went out of their way to cause their deaths, killed totally against their will, I find it sickening that someone would make a joke out of that.
The Steve Irwin jokes are not as bad in the way that it was one individual rather than thousands of people, however whenever you laugh at a Steve Irwin joke there is a certain amount of guilt involved (unless you have no heart).
None of the jokes you posted above were related to death, apart from the Cancer Research joke, although that wasn't directed specifically to people with cancer, and people with cancer are not put in that place by the actions of others (although technically due to passive smoking they could be).
