Need some help please :)

Post by F |Madness| U » June 3rd, 2009, 9:07 pm

Yeah so you can probably tell I'm new to these forums  , and i have a few questions which i wuold greatly appreciate being answered.

~ I have version 1.05 (or something like that - the version which comes with the disc) of CoD4, and was wondering if i download the CJ mod, will it work on my version of CoD4? ( even though i know i won't be able to go into CJ servers)

~ I have a really crap FPS, around 30 or so lol, and i'm gonna be looking to buy a new graphics card and/or PC - any suggestions/advice?

Thanks in advance, Mad. :D

Welcome to the forums ;)

I think mod should work, just try it out.

And for comp, many people have diferent views tbh, but try to get a dual or quad core, with a decent graphic card, like 260 gtx or something else of your choice.

Figure out your budget before you go hastily buying anything. Once you know your budget, tell us, and we'll be able to help you out.

Ooh yeah true budget... umm I'd say anywhere from £500-£1000, but i honestly don't know the prices of anything these days.

I don't need like an amazing graphics card/pc, just one where i can have fairly good graphics with (hopefully) a fairly good FPS.

And also could somebody send me a link to where I download the mod? - Don't know how to traverse this website properly yet :?

Thanks again. :D

Will you be playing other games on your PC or do you want your computer to solely jump on CoD4? What I'm trying to find is how dedicated you are to gaming as a whole, I don't want to set you up with a £1000 rig if you only ever play CoD4 on PC and play everything else on console or something. Also, could I get your current system specs as accurate as you can give them to me. Most importantly, I need your motherboard model. If your PC is a Dell or HP store bought computer, just give me that model and I'll be good to go.

Well firstly, thanks for giving me the link and being so considerate towards me :o

Ok, yeah i only tend to play games on PC now, mainly CoD4, although i do play various others and am going to be getting CoD:MW2. However i wouldn't say i am quite as dedicated gamers as you guys (sorry if this is stereo-typical), so I am really looking for a just above average graphics and playing quality (however i do not know if an average quality pc/graphics card is £1000 or what).

Thanks :)

You definitely won't need to spend £1000 for just a decent PC. My guess is you'll probably end up spending closer to £500-£600 depending on whether or not you want things like a keyboard, monitor, hard drive, mouse, etc.

Of course, I still need to know either your PC model or motherboard model. Also, do you have an experience working with computer hardware?

Okay, well i think my current computer is getting old and knackered anyway, so i think im pretty sure I'll be buying a completely new one.

So im assuming a standard mouse/keyboard etc would come with a new PC, if not I can sort them out myself so you don't need to think about that.

And no i don't have much knowledge of inside PC's, but i have a few friends who do, however it would be alot easier if there was one which i could just plug in and use ;) I just really don't know which models of computers and graphics card are best ( I currently have a Dell and i heard they are terrible because they overheat so much).

EDIT: I need to get off the computer now, i'll read anyway suggestions and help tomorrow :)

Custom built computers are a thousand times better. Ask your friends if any of them can build a computer and if they'd be willing to help you with it. If not, I suppose you can go with a commercial model, it will be overpriced though.

If your friends can't build it for you, go to a local small business pc shop, I'm sure they would gladly throw it together for a small price, my local pc shop charges about $60.

No problem, I'm going through the same thing right now hehe, a great site I found is tomshardware.com, excellent community, and really good articles and reviews.
