Good free antivirus software

Post by aicaramba » August 23rd, 2008, 1:29 pm

Im looking for a proper free anti virus program.
I have AVG, but it tends to let through certain stuff. Then I read bitdefender was a good addition AVG, so I installed that, but all those things keep giving me trouble.
Does anyone know a good, free antivirus program?

ComboFix, without a doubt:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofi ... e-combofix

The only drawback is that roughly 1/100 computers make it through the removal process. It never happened to me and I've been using it for quite some time now but it could happen to you dunno.

I guess you should also read this:

http://www.tech-faq.com/combofix.shtml

So if you have a specific rootkit, don't use this program. If you're just a regular user(like me), this program is probably a good choice.

NOD32 is by far the best free anti-virus program. I think that 90% would agree with me :P (except the one's who don't know so much about anti-virus programs)

Is NOD32 a free antivirus software then?
I can only have free 30 day trial period.

Yeah, but then you find out that NOD32 basically just removes the really nasty ones(like the ones who replace your explorer.exe or don't let you access the task manager) whilst the one I recommended really get's the job done.

Don't get me wrong, I also use NOD32 it's just that it doesn't get the job done properly. -.-

Router, Windows Firewall and NoD32, never had a virus.

The greatest anti-virus is common sense.
Stop downloading dodgy porn, stop using google to find cracks and stop thinking your antivirus is untouchable.

caramba there are two different versions of NOD32. The free one, and a premium one. The premium version is mostly for office workers etc (it scans 24/7 non-stop, so it slows down your PC a little) while the free version scans 24/7 for smaller viruses and small files that are infected, and if you want to perform a full system scan you will have to do it manually (or, well, you need to press a button or two)

If you still can't find it, I'll send a link in a PM or so :P

Oh, I thought it meant he just wasn't wearing any undergarments, which was kind of off topic...although sexy

To keep this post on topic, I just use Microsoft Antispyware and common sense. Surprisingly, it has worked perfectly every time I've gotten a virus.
