New PC/FPS help in CoD4

ok, so i finally got a my new PC :

9800GX2 graphics card

2.4 GHz Quadcore

6GB ram...


with that (particularly the grphx card) i was hoping to get 333 stable on high graphics... and well, i dont even get 125 constant

so tried with low graphics (lowest possible - configs to make them low) and its a bit better but i STILL dont get even get 125 stable. I can SOMETIMES (not often tbh) get 333 when i look down, but im supost to get 333 stable with that pc right ?

i also read that the graphics card is supost to be alot better at high resolution. So i tried @ 1680x1050 (highest i can go with this monitor) and the fps seem exacly the same as with 640x480.

I've got the latest drivers from nvidia, its not overheating or anything, harddisk is new so i dont think its anything on there thats doing it, i dont run any other programs when i play, even uninstalled AntiVirus.. Anyone know what could be the problem ?

I mean the 9800GX2 is supost to be good, ( =8800GTS SLI i think, am i correct? ) so i rly dont knwo why im getting so low fps..



To enable the 2 GPUs in CoD4, is the command : r_multigpu 1 (which i always have enabled)

i would be happy to get 333stable, even with low graphics..

look @ screenshots, u can see how bad graphics are, and how many fps i get..
And when im on a full server with loads of ppl shooting etc, it sometimes drops to like 60..

I also talked with him on the server and asked a few questions. So no need to ask obvious stuff like sync every frame off and /com_maxfps 0. I went through everything I could think of. It isn't something obvious.

What do you mean cod4 game settings? Graphics, etc? If so, i play on the lowest graphics possible.


Nope, havnt tried any other games, ill try Crysis when i find the CD again.

Ok, so im running Vista 64bit :

- EVGA Geforce 9800GX2 with driver version : 175.19 (forgot to mention, its second hand, not really sure what this could change but watever)
- Intel Core 2 QUAD 2.66GHz Q6700
- RAM : 6GB DDR2
- Motherboard : Penryn1600SLI-110dB / Chipset : nForce 750i SLI SPP
- ASUS 850W Power Supply

It all depends on the graphics card man. For instance my 8800 GTS G92 has better cpu in it than the 9800 and I get 125 solid in cod4 I can almost get 333. The only thing mine lacks in memory. They need to make a 1gb card with my cpu that is in the gts g92, You could always return your card if it hasnt been past warrenty and get store credit and buy a 280, my step-dad gets 125 solid on his 30" monitor! with that card....

Yes. But when i turn it on or off, i get no difference at all in FPS which makes me think its not seeing the 2nd GPU.

The 9800GX2 has got 1GB memory. (well actually ive just noticed that in windows, for some reason it says the memory is 512MB)

But isnt my card just the same as 8800GTS G92 SLI ?
Im on a 22' monitor too.

And yes, if i cant get it fixed ill just get a 260GTX or 280...

That aint true what u said.. Your 8800gts g92 isnt better as the 9800gx2.. infact, the 9800gx2 is simply your card, but twice.

@ president.. have you tried other games? If so, does it perform bad in those aswell..
Some other things you could try. Put your graphics card into someone else's pc.. And, put an other graphics card in your pc.. See which one of those make differences. This way you can rule out if it is a gpu problem, or an other piece of hardware.

No, I havnt tried other games yet, ill try Crysis when i find the disk again( just moved, so boxes evrywhere)

Im not sure ill be able to try it on someone else's PC, as i dont know anyone with a Power supply that could handle it.

Could it being second hand have anything to do with it? (Got it off eBay so...)

I dont think that having it second hand would hurt it much unless the 1st person was an idiot and tried to overclock and failed maybe...

there is a chance he burned it which would drastically effect performance, but only if he was an idiot like dizzy said.
