Soviet_Standoff Screenshots

Post by Soviet » April 21st, 2006, 4:06 am

well i finally decided its time to release some screenshots of my first map ive ever made. The map isn't done so the lighting isn't fully where it will be at when it is done, and also some textures will be replaced. After i'm done ill work on converting it to cod2. Keep in mind this is my first map...so critique but don't be too mean :P

Well, in my opinion most of the new maps should be made for CoD2
The best is still to make it for both..

ah, sorry, forgot to mention its not a jump map. I merely wanted to test radiant in my first map so this is a dm/tdm map

I am going to admit. When I first saw your "original" design (when you first started mapping), the map was of very low standard. Now... I think the map look very well made and designed.

A few things I will point out.

All the spikes you need to make detail. This will stop them consuming FPS.
Your lights need to be lowered.

In the light entity window put...
key: light
value: 30 (basically a small number, play with these a little to adjust them)

Looks very, very nice for your first map! The top box in the last image doesn't look as though it would stay in that position in real life :P (maybe it's just this camera angle). As drofder said, there seems to be a bit too much lighting in places, but other than that I can't think of any criticisms.

lava texture? That looks more like burned wood (ash & embers ;)). From what I gather, it is meant to feel like the rocky side of Hell (when you imagine hell, you imagine lava flowing around black rock-like formations, well these are those formations ;))
