For gap training...

Post by Dan2k3k4 » March 6th, 2006, 12:59 am

Do you consider the actual gap between X platform and Y platform (soo touches both edges) or do you take one unit into both X and Y platform?
Just wondering... since I'll have an ultra gap training going on in my map... which may take awhilst to make but I will finish it :P

Ohh and...

That's considered to be a normal difficulty maze which will feature in my map :P soo imagine what the hard one will be like? :)

not sure what you mean. waste of time making more gap training maps imo unless you can add something different and useful, like how i made the ceilings lower in mine.

Never, never, never put mazes in jump maps, it ticks people off like mad, especially invisible wall mazes.

yea especially ones like you are planning on making. I dont mind small mazes like the one in Peds_Puzzle but huge ones like that are going to agrovate people

I have, and always will, cosider mazes in a jump map, to be the most iritating things you can inmagine.

i came to jump, not to solve a puzzle.
if i wanted to solve a puzzle, i would get a crossword puzzle book, and go sit on the couch, with a beer at my side. 8)

lol basically Im gonna have an ultra gap training on one side of spawn.... the actual jm_danograd infront of spawn, and "other stuff" which will include a couple maze's (with jumps) to the other side of spawn :P Soo people can either do the map, do some gap training OR complete some jump mazes or just dive off something high (but would need to jump up their first) ;)

I've sorta expanded Luke's idea on jm_motion

...and Luke I mean... for your 220-260 jumps have you just measured another brush between platform 220 and platform 221 and made sure that brush inbetween the both is 220 units big? or have you put one unit onto the 220 platform and one unit extra onto the 221 platform? and then just called it 220?
Since the CoD player can't exactly jump when theirs nothing to stand or land on... its hard to explain :P

Here this should help...

http://img324.imageshack.us/img324/1857/asada6xa.jpg

Basically do you use the top way? where you measure between each edge? or the bottom way where you have one or two units where the CoD player can jump off and land on? :P

A jump is measured by the space in between 2 platforms.

So 220 jump would be 220 units in the middle of the jumps.

Semi-Offtopic:

A jump of 200 units (example) is acutally 138.

Basically, imagine the player as a 32x32 square (axis X and Y). A player can "float" off the edge of the platform as long as 1 unit of his 32 are touching it.

So
200 (jump)
-31 (the player can jump off the platform with only 1 unit space)
-31 (the player can land on a platform only 1 unit in)
138 (total theoretical jump size)

/kill :P

lol, yeah that makes sense...it might not be how far the player actually jumps, but its just best(easier) to name it as its measured (between the 2 platforms)

dan, like drofder said its the distance between the platform you jump from and the one you land on, so just draw a brush so its level with the first platform touching the edge and to the distance u want the jump, then place the second platform so its touching and is level with the brush used to measure the gap. You have to be certain that the brush in between is touching and level with the 2 platforms, so keep it on grid 1.
If its still not clear i can show u a pic.
