High fps maps

Post by Innkeeper » April 14th, 2010, 6:32 pm

Why do almost all new cod4 jump maps coming out require 333 fps? With cod2 maps and the older cod4 maps, the mapper always made sure that their map was possible with 125 fps, even if it was extremely difficult. Since my comp is very bad, I can only get 125 fps, so its kind of frustrating that all these new maps coming out are impossible...

Reasoning is simple, yet I do not agree with it.

People are creating maps of the highest difficulty, which in their opinion means varying FPS, which is actually cutting down the majority of people who can actually play it.

If we were to create 125 maps only, people with higher FPS would complain of them being too easy, and instead of challenging themselves (by lowering their fps) they choose to force the difficulty on to mappers.

I think people can make very difficult maps that rely on 125 fps only... i believe some of dantheman's maps are good examples, they are very difficult but for the most part are 125 fps, which is what more mappers should aim for imo

Maybe if somebody finds a way to add into the map files some scripting which only enables up to 125fps to be used, that way the people which get higher fps will be forced to do it the harder way :)

I think it's mainly because PCs have improved considerably since the CoD1 days, so many people automatically assume that others can get 250/333 FPS, when in the past it was a much lower proportion of people who could.

I try to make all of my maps possible with 125 FPS (although I've only really done 2 maps for CoD1 thus far, training map and propel which is 125 only).

Try ib_glass and tell me it's easy.

But if I were a mapper, I would aim to create it with 125 FPS.

Still it's the decision of the mapper which jumps in the map are. And there also in cod2 maps that require more than 125fps. And at least in CoD2 you have different types of jumps with different fps that require other techniques. You have to see how many people are there on who can't reach more than 125fps? Should we make an exception for only a few?

The fact is, people who can make 250 FPS can also make 125.
People who can make 125, may not make 250.

Make the map based on 125 jumping standards, and if these people who think they are good at jumping want to challenge themselves, they can stick their FPS to the level the map was intended, if they just want to breeze through a majority of jumps, then let them use their 250 fps.

We do not force FPS upon people, but we do like to accommodate everyone, and the easiest way to do this is to set it at a FPS to a standard level.

forcing fps is the best way.

by the way, the player needs more space in the air for doing a good 333 fps strafe jump than the one who uses 125. so you can narrow the air space.

I tested a force125fps script in mp_mario. It was a disaster I would say 90% of the people joining the server couldn't even do the easiest jumps with 125fps but with 250fps. Do it for a hard version but not normal.

He means that 333fps maps can be equally hard as a 125fps map.
Like mp_ib_glass (333) and mp_spacestation(125).

Both maps are hard.

Yeh but with 333FPS in your maps you can add new types of jump. Like the FPS switch.

True. A harder map with limits till 333 FPS would be a good thing. Same map, but just liek easy > medium > hard

You don't have the FPS_problems in my maps. :P
I made my maps 125 fps only. 8) Because while I was making the maps I kept in mind not everywone can use 250-333 FPS.

It is easy.

Look, we can say that there are 3 main type of glitches, strafe jumps, rpg strafe jumps and bounces. There are no strafe jumps nor rpg jumps that require 333 fps(talking about custom maps here), expect maybe one map, you can do every strafe and rpg strafe jump with 125 fps. So we are left with bounces, making a 125 fps bounces only, no matter how hard they could be with 125 itself, it would be just plain boring. Not only it would be boring, but in most cases a hard 125 bounce only could probably be done easily with a switch, so supposedly a hard map, which would be hard if you had to use 125fps only, would be easy because most people would switch. No matter how you look at it, with fullbright on custom maps most people do get at least 250 if not 333 fps. All that bounces are about are switches and timings, making bounces that require you to do different combination of switches at specific time is much more fun and much more challenging. I suppose you could put a script on your map that will force your fps to be 125 at all time, but still, bounces are about switches and timings, that's what fun about them.
