I suppose, however, I don't think it is really a flaw or lazy map design as much as a different design direction. In fact, in a way they didn't really have much choice. In creating the game they did, realism was the main thing they were striving for. That includes immersion, which requires realistic environments and typically, greater interaction or use of environment. Hence, all the ghillie suits. I agree that maps like carentan, kharkov, and toujane were phenomenal, however, do you really think they could pull off these maps with the weaponry and atmosphere they are trying to create?
And, there are maps that aren't camp maps. Broadcast and Crash for example. They are undoubtedly not as good as the aforementioned maps, however, they are genius in their own way.
Oh, and Crossfire is not a gay map. I own on that map even more when I don't camp than when I camp. You just suck at it.
Also, for the record, maps like dust2 aren't that great imo. I enjoy a game where I can outwit an enemy, not one that is solely based on how fast you can pull the trigger. If I wanted to mess around with my reaction times I'd play some stupid flash game.
