A new site has been set up (started 25th September), where you can 'virtually' own real-life assets, and resell them etc. I've invested in a few things (tyne bridge, sage, gateshead, nufc.co.uk, chelseafc.co.uk, manutd.co.uk) in the hopes that I can sell them for more money when the site becomes more popular.

For those of you who may be interested in making money out of it, I recommend you sign up and start buying things now before it's so popular that all the best things are taken (it's already kinda getting to that stage, but once in a while you manage to find something someone else hasn't found yet

).

How can you earn money by buying non-existant assets?

For example I will quote them..

Weblo is the only game where players invest in real estate, buy any domain name (even if its already taken in the real world)

how can you make money from a domain name if its already taken?

Should I just buy google/yahoo/microsoft? how the fuck am I going to get a return on something I dont 'actually' own?

You buy a weblo domain (it isnt an actual domain name, but you can make money from it with pay per click ads), or a property (e.g. empire state building), then you can auction it off or sell it to someone who makes an offer for it. It works on the principle that there is demand for these certain properties, if there's not then you kinda lose money. By buying chelsea, newcastle and man utd domains I'm pretty much guaranteed to get an offer from a die-hard fan who's eager to get the domain off me (although there is obviously a chance that I could make no money at all

).

This week saw the launch of Weblo, a new concept which aims to provide a carbon copy of the real world by allowing members to buy, manage and trade virtual assets as diverse as celebrities and landmarks, making real money all the while.

The only person who is actually making money is the company...

Think of it logically.

Nobody owns nothing except the company (who own everything).
That company paid nothing to get those assets yet they still charge you for them.

Company makes heaps of cash when everyone buys the assets. Everyone initially loses money.
Everyone then gets into a frenzy to buy things off everyone else, some people make a little money some people get nothing, but in all the only person who actually wins anything is the company who makes shit loads.

That being said, what is stopping someone buying http://www.manu.com/www.manchesterunited.com/etc...
If you consider the amount of possibilities that can be used why would anyone bother buying something from someone who will charge them more?

I'm aware that the company makes shitloads of cash, but at the same time there is a possibility for me to make quite a bit of cash too (although I'm aware it'll be nowhere near what the site owners are getting). Manutd.co.uk is the official website domain, that's why it'll be worth more than manu or manchesterunited, same goes for chelsea and newcastle.
