Same way as people learn to do most things. Observation and reading and practice.

Firstly I started out reading mods (I started with coDam, I recommend against this, the mod has crazy scripting) my first understanding came from looking at how some people did something and then replicating it. mainly little things in a mod.

I then moved on to looking at threads that were made on modsonline and when an answer was given, try it myself.

with scripting i have also been doing scripting since Year 11 (I started with a VBA [Visual Basic for Applications] when I created a scripted "finance" calculator (no nothing special, simply type a value and all the other values were calculated automatically). I went from VBA to VB6 to C/C++ (most useful) and also VB.Net.
