A tutorial for making fragmovies?
hey guys, jus wondering if some1 can give me a tutorial on making fragmovies, like on how to take lots of screenshots and put them together and convert to an avi. file?
and another question: is it that the more screenshots u take the beter quality the fragmoive is?
-=thx=-

i would suggest against taking a lot of screenshots as even though it can have a good quality and a high framerate it will create a very large file and will be very hard to make. First you make your video just by doing the normal /record command, and /demo for the playback it speaks of in the beginning of the tut.
Ursemmer-Shapiro wrote:Playback your demo, and type /cl_avidemo 30 in the console, your screen will go fairly jerky and your FPS will hit the floor. What it is doing is taking a screenshot 30 times a second.
Once you have your desired footage, you will have a LOT of screenshots in your screenshots folder. What you need to do is convert these from TGA to Jpeg. Theres 3 good programs that I tried this with and work very good.
One is a program called reaconverter pro available from http://www.reasoft.com/products/reaconverter/
2jpeg, this is a command line based program and is very quick. You can get this from http://batch.fcodersoft.com/2jpeg/
The last one, that I use is paint shop pro 7. from http://www.jasc.com
All of these programs are pretty simple to use, so I shouldn’t need to bother writing how to batch convert the files to jpeg.
So now we have hundereds of jpeg files, we need to put them all together to make an avi file. My personal choice of program for this is a program called JPGVideo, you can get this from http://www.ndrw.co.uk/download/free/jpg ... gvideo.zip /Link edited by Grom
This is very simple to use also, simply launch the program and click configure. At the top choose the directory where all your jpeg images are, and underneath that the output for the avi file. Set the frames per second slider to 30 then hit Ok.
On the next screen click run, it will then ask you which codec you want to use, at this point you can leave it uncompressed or compress it with your favouritre codec (divx personally)
Once that process is done, you now have the .avi file which you can edit in premier or any other editing program.
o ok, so i playback my demo by using /demo (demoname) and while its on the loading screen i type /cl_avidemo 30? and also another question, it may take up alot of space and i mean alot, but when i type /cl_avidemo 30 can i inrease the 30 to a higher interger? so its a better quality?
wut do u think Soviet???
EDIT: wut is the difference if u compress or not-compress? and is there a tutorial for that also?u also mentioned a codec of some sort, divx was it do i have to download that also?

Anything above 30 will provide more detail but not enough to be worth the extra mb's.
I believe movies are filmed at 24fps (guestimate) and 30 will be enough to provide very smooth video playback.

divx is merely a codec/compressor for video files
codec here:
http://www.divx-digest.com/software/divxcodec.html
im not exactly sure how to compress with it but you should be able to compress on one of the screens that comes up while converting the files to .avi. Also, i agree with drof, dont go any higher than 30, and 25 would probably be fine as well.

You won't be able to open up the console while it's loading the demo, so wait until the demo has loaded and then do it. When recording your demos leave a little bit of space at the start to give you time to type the command in (or bind it to a key to make it quicker).Waffles wrote:o ok, so i playback my demo by using /demo (demoname) and while its on the loading screen i type /cl_avidemo 30?
