Got my copy of CoD2 yesterday. Graphics cannot be faulted - they are superb, although I can only play the game in 800x600 with all settings down low and even then I struggle to hit 50fps and I thought my kit was pretty good - may have to get the 7800 graphics card! However, the gameplay on MP totally sucks! There is nothing particuarly new with the exception of excellent graphics and IMO they have actually taken a step backwards in terms of playability. Sprinting is out, satchel charges are out, cooking off nades is out, artillery is out (not necessarily a bad thing), there is no ranking system to progress through, the maps all have a claustrophobic feel to them and, personally, I find it very difficult to differentiate between friend and foe. In short, all the modifications (some good and some bad) introduced to the original game by United Offensive have been removed - this is just CoD with pretty pictures! Which gets me thinking that we can all expect to fork out for a UO-style expansion pack in the near future - bloody charlatans!
The smaller maps combined with trench guns and very low-recoil smg's make rifling very difficult. Also hate the new health system, where a short stint hiding under a rock can heal your mortal wounds. In the good old days, blasting a chunk out of someone with a rifle would keep them away permanently or allow you to finish them off with ease and a pistol, now you can be prepared for the times you wing someone with a rifle who then recuperates under cover before rushing your position spraying you with easy-aim mg or the one-shot-wonder trench gun. This is a noob friendly game.
Looks like months of development and most of the budget went to the graphics. All those little personal improvements you were hoping for, bayonnets, longer sprints etc. you can forget. CoD2 is to CoD/UO what the Phantom Mennace is to the original Star Wars - nothing more than a special effects bonanza. If your computer chugs along with CoD/UO, you should be glad that you have no possible chance of playing CoD2 - a steaming turd-heap of a game (IMO).
Does anyone truly believe the MP aspect of this game (I have not played the SP game, yet) is good?

i hated uo because of sprinting, cooked nades, ranking, etc. so im v happy with cod2. i like the new guns and rifles are now always 1 hit kills so no more bs of having 2 pistol some 1 to finish them off. maybe the only prob is that some maps may be a bit small but maybe its cos im just rushing all the time atm

If you like plain vanilla Cod without the extras then, I agree, this game is for you. You'll love the graphics. Personally, I thought UO was an improvement sprinting and cooking off grenades were (IMO) two good additions. The ranking I could live without and artillery could suck, particularly if friendly fire was off.
However, the weapons in Cod2, particularly the lack of recoil with the mg's, on small maps, just attracts the old spray-and-pray noobs and that is definitely a bad thing. Still, each to there own.
But to more important things - De$t!nY, being the resident jump guru - is strafe jumping, as we know it, possible in CoD2? Pray tell.
