A friend of mine has an electric guitar and keyboard and was wondering if it's possible to record those instruments directly onto his pc. Does anybody of you know what kind of program/soundcard (or whatever) he needs, cause I don't have any idea ?

I use "Audacity", just search that on google. It is a FREE multi track recording program, simple to use and easy to edit things afterwards. Small file to so give it a go.
If you want really advanced features, you would probably have to spend a bit of money, maybe on something listed above.
The real question is what is the question?

i've been using cakewalk guitar tracks pro 3 for awhile, its a 32 track guitar studio program..the effects on it are shit, i tried using a plugin called amplitube which sounds amazing, but i get a funny noise every few seconds when i try to use it

i also have a problem trying to join parts together. all i want to do is create 2 or 3 tracks, and make a track repeat itself with a fixed time between..can u do that with audacity? and what effects can u get?
