To start radiant, open COD5CompileTools. This can be found in your "installation directory/Bin/CoD5CompileTools/CoD5CompileTools.exe".
Browse to the Applications tab and the first button is Launch Level Editor.

If this is your first time starting Radiant then you will be asked for a Project file. This will be in "Call of Duty 5/bin/cod5.prj". After you pick the file Radiant should follow with a blank map.

Radiant Windows

Your 2d window is where you create your brushes, brushes are cubes that strech into walls, ceilings, floors, pretty much everything except organic items like terrain. You can change the size of the grid with the "grid" menu at the top or pressing the shortcuts " ~ to 9". At first all your brushes will snap to this grid but you can disable that in "Edit -> Preferences". Although this is not recommended and very rarely used, you may be able to get that detail you want once you learn how to make a map. You can even right click on the grid to get another menu of important options but this will be revisited later.

The 3d window is a real time view of what you are building, you can select items and move around in this window but that is covered later.

The Texture window displays all of the textures that fit your selection. Common selections include all, by surface type, and by purpose.

Movement within Radiant

2d Window

* Right Click + drag mouse lets you pan the grid in any direction.
* Mouse scroll wheel and Ins & Del let you zoom in and out.
o Zooming in and out is relative to your mouse, it becomes the center.

3d Window

* Right Click + Drag lets you move around on the XY plane.
* Ctrl + Right Click + Drag lets your camera move around on the YZ plane.
* Shift + Ctrl + Right Click + Drag lets you rotate your camera all 360 degrees.
o If you turn your camera upside down then all your rotations will seem mirrored.
