Sounds like an MMO about zombie survival. Really awesome concept, but I watched some videos and looks buggy as shit. Should do this on the Unreal engine or something (I presume it hasn't?).

Aye, there are some bugs but whilst playing the game you don't really pay attention to it some how. :)

It is not a game, it is a MOD and the mod is in ALPHA stages, its expected to be buggy, but in no way would I PAY to play an alpha mod.

Plenty of mods which become a 'game' eventually anyway if good enough.

I paid for Minecraft in its early forms of being a beta. This isn't that much different.

Minecraft= Full Game. You got given beta access as part of the deal. The money you spend goes directly to development.
DayZ = Mod. You are buying a different game to participate in an alpha.
You are not funding the development of this mod in any way. There are no benefits to the developer at this stage.
If the producers/developers of ArmA2 would be willing to GIVE me a copy of their game, I would be willing to pay the developer for the full game on release.

There is a MASSIVE difference between the two examples.

---

Also, I read that DayZ is now getting direct support from the ArmA devs, due to the popularity and the fact DayZ has produced a 5x increase in sales. So, maybe with the extra support the game could get some much needed help.

But shouldn't you be able to play the game once it's finished? Without buying it again ofc.

Its a mod, therefore your money has no precedence in the outcome of the mod. There is nothing stopping the developer from stopping the work and you would be left with what you already have. If you paid for a game (preorder) and the company stopped production, they would be liable for refunds.

I watched an interview with the creator of the mod DayZ a few days ago and basically what he said was that he is not able to keep up with the popularity which it's getting right now. DayZ was supposed to have about 3-5 servers and it ended up having 1400 instead and not even mentioning the 700.000 players (give or take).

He's planning on working on all the bugs and trying to improve it in the upcomming days/weeks. Also he announced some cool features which will be updated in the future. For example, players will have to oppertunity to go underground and create a hiding place and actually build from there.

I also told Peds that there actually is a way to navigate by stars in dayz, like you can in real life (if you know how ofcourse).
I did some more research on this and it's actually possible :).

Also, and probably the most important thing out of the interview, they asked what would become of DayZ since the creator of the mod does not earn ANY money at all because it's all based on ArmA. His reponds to that was that he'll probably try to make DayZ a stand alone game by the end of september but after reading Drofd's post that ArmA is providing him support with developing I'd say that he'll eventually get his split of the people who bought ArmA 2 over the last couple of weeks/months or they'll find some other way of rewarding him with something.

If the guys from ArmA have a brain they will delay ArmA3 by 6 months, employ this modder and fully fund a standalone working game. Separating ArmA from DayZ is the best thing for the audience but it is the worst thing for the ArmA devs.

Combining efforts equals everyone wins.

Sounds so awesome. How large is this world actually? And is it always the same or completely random as in Minecraft?

Damn. Imagine playing this with like 10 friends or so. Really sick.

I bet there must be loads of secrets in this world. Secrets hide-outs etc.
