Facebook is the current and the future, although there's not much point of joining it if you're not a student / soon to be. It's mainly a student thing.

Facebook is USED by students mainly, it was never intended for only students, its the simple fact that student life is a whole lot about "socialising" and this is one of the easiest ways (and probably the best for long distance comms.
There are many, many more reasons to join Facebook... don't ask what they are, you will need to find them yourself
