Those in the know... they were vital, and without them a possibility the war would've been lost.
Those not in the know, they were a crazy army who liked to shoot each other for not committing suicide :P

possibilty the war would've been lost? They were facing over twice the amount of troops as the other allies on D-Day and still made more progress. But that view is better than the american one (the commies just helped distract hitler a little while we went in with our amazing skills and seized berlin, whereafter the russians claimed it was their's)

I say possibility, because the outcome of something so huge changing is impossible to give a definite prediction. My view is that most armies involved in the war did their part, and without each and everyone, we would've had the chance of losing the war...

Russia were facing more troops, but that is because their style of war (imo, pretty much suicidal) would've overpowered a smaller army, therefore more was thrown in their way. Remember, Russia is several times larger than Britain ;)

true more was thrown their way, but if russia had not fought or was already defeated, all those troops would have been on the western front, thus almost cetainly anihilating britain

Ironic that you misspelt 'necessary' in the same sentence where you talk about the poor education system of America :D

the main problem with McDonalds IS the fires and milkshake.
The fries are salted to unbelievable levels, extremely bad for anyone, and the milkshake is full of saturated fats, enough to turn a couple of days healthy diet into an unhealthy diet...

Anyone got an "American History" book with details of WW2, would be a funny and interesting read :D

It's showing how much Russians ran to their deaths compared to the Americans who ran to their deaths.

Although Allied commanders still had respect for the soldiers compared to the Russians... That's just sick.

the russians were also raped, tortured, and beaten as bad as the people in the concentration camps, in fact, the russian prisoners were often sent there. It wasnt just the jews, it was also the communists. A large portion of those deaths were helpless civilians who were overrun as the germans stampeded through the soviet union to begin with. Though true the russian soldiers were treated that way by their officers and leaders, all more the reason to respect these soldiers for enduring not only the enemy, but their own country as well. I dont honor the leaders in wars, I honor the soldiers. As for bad tactics, no. They proved they had tactics when they pulled off Operation Uranus in the battle of Stalingrad. IF you dont know what it is look it up. As for mistakes, everyone makes them, D-Day itself wasnt the best thing ever but I dont see any 60% american casualties because of it. As for forces sucking, the russians advanced twice as far in half the time as the americans and british after d-day until the end of the war. I believe the western allies reached berlin roughly two weeks after the USSR rose the flag over the reichstag
