CoD:WaW MP Down!

Post by Infinite » November 15th, 2008, 6:51 pm

Around 3 or 4 hours ago, or about 9:00 am EST on November 15,2008, the CoD:WaW MP Master server went down. 3 hours later, no explanation has been reported and many people are literally FREAKING OUT. People are threatening Treyarch, when Activision runs the Master Server for CoD:WaW and there is a lot of confusion. it seems that some servers are working if you connect through IP or have them in your favorites list and they only seem to be servers in the UK atm. You cannot use your accounts that you have created since you need to connect to the Master Server to get your account to work. Just to show how many people are freaking out, here is a screenshot from the Callofduty forums. Notice how many people have viewed that ONE topic within abut 3 hours.

Image

4599 views over 3 hours o.o.

some people are freaking out and posting things like this
however gets around to deleting/ censoring this thread, while your at it go fix the **** login server, whos bright idea was that.... hope the **** gets raped on the way home from the pub tonight. the hell you guys doing not letting people use something theyve paid for... **** idiots

Activision's own website was down for sometime, and it appears that they were attacked or that their database went down or was erased, but we cannot be sure at this time :x.

EDIT: in the end, it seems that a bunch of people are just over reacting since they can't get high off their CoD:WaW MP.

ah, so that's how it is!

Thanks Infinite, I tried playing co-op with my father the whole day (He's trying to work around it now the whole day already!). Thanks mate, this explains it.

ok, I admit, this is annoying (Also because of the fact that my father worked the whole day to get it to work) but those sad fucks (Most of them) are just acting childish, it's not the end of the world. You should see the shit coming over Blizzard when a realm is down in WoW. Many people crying on the realm forums, 100 topics whining about that the realm is offline and that Blizzard sucks etc.

This is the same crap.

they are probably threatening treyarch, because it was probably treyarch's idea to do the master server thing. I could be wrong tho ><

Its back up people

Nope, but if your XP and rank have disappeared then try the following:

Ok, i have found a way to fix stat resets. THIS REQUIRES EDITING A FILE

What we are going to do is remove the default profile "$$$" from becoming active before your profile

** YOUR PATH FOR THE FILE MAY DIFFER THAN MINE

IT WORKED FOR ME AND A FRIEND USING WINDOWS XP

1. DON'T CREATE ANOTHER ACCOUNT, i'm not sure but it may delete the old one.
2. go to C:\Documents and Settings\{COMPUTER LOGON NAME}\Local Settings\Application Data\Activision\CoDWaW\players\
3. go to the profile folder and go to the text document "active.txt"
4. IN THE TEXTFILE REPLACE "$$$" with YOUR PROFILE NAME
5. Save and your done!

Also:

If you have vista, you might be lucky enought to see if you have a VOLUME SHADOW COPY enabled and you might have a backup of your data in the locations below.

To check for shadow volume being enabled on vista go to your C:\ and right click and hit properties and there should be a Previous Versions Tab.

Then I copy the information to a folder on my desktop that I am going to browse and find the files needed.

First you need to setup your system to see hidden files and folders:
Click on the Start Menu
Select Control Panel
Double-click on the Folder options
Select the View tab
Select the option to view hidden files and folders

Next browse to the data you wish to backup:
Go to start -> computer
Double-click on C:
Double-click on the users folder
Double-click on a folder that has your Windows username
Double-click on the AppData folder
Double-click on the Local folder
Double-click on the Activision folder
Double-click on the CoDWaW folder
Backup the Players folder to a safe location

Windows XP

Go to My Computer
Double-click on C:
Double-click on the Documents and Settings folder
Double-click on the folder the has your Windows username
Double-click on the Local Settings folder
Double-click on the Application Data folder
Double-click on the Activision folder
Double-click on the CoDWaW folder
Backup the Players folder to a safe location

Good luck guys....

Just a quick note, when editing the Active.txt open the file type in the name as spelt on the Profile folder, Like if your GreenVenom , type it in as the excate spelling with uppeer & lower case i,e(GreenVenom) then save the Active file with Save-AS dont just click save it dont work i got someone to check this out, when he did Save-As his profile started to work again

i found it amazing and fairly disturbing about how many people freaked out that it went down for 4-5 hours. thousands of views on a topic within 4-5 hours is insanity.

I can see your point, but who said it was gonna be 4 hours, if you pay for something you expect it to work.

Stuff like this can happen. I do remember it happening in CoD4 once or twice aswell. People need to stop crying like little kids.

Well yeah everyone over reacted, but that's only because Treyarch has screwed up 100 times.

If so - its a problem they caused for themselves really by adding this poinltess login system.

Either way, they should have backups and backup systems ready to go.
Indeed, login system is pointless. Although it should stop any rank problems, hopefully.

That could be done without a login system though/
IW tried it and it failed. When I lost my rank, I just downloaded someone elses and used theirs.

KillerSam wrote:It could store online by GUID automatically instead of a login / password. That way people could only get your rank profile if they have your CD Key. Storing the rank detail on your PC is flawed, I agree.
It would still need to be online, which poses the question, what happens if the server goes down for maintenance?
Online storage is flawed just as much as offline.

In my honest opinion, we should've just stuck to how it was in the beginning. If they wanted to add ranks, then add them, but they should not give a shit about whether or not people hack those ranks. At the end of the day, the game should be equal in availability. No person should have an advantage over another, just based on how often they play the game.

If only you saw what I did for this fucking community!

Not only have I got us the servers (not saying KS/Peds couldn't have done it themselves) but I am now also redesigning the mod for the community. Now give me one reason why I should not play WotLK for the rest of the night and ignore the chance to do a bit of design for the mod?

(and that reason cannot be related to health :P)
