The frustrating "Crate" jump (crash)

Post by Thistle » April 29th, 2008, 6:35 pm

I just can't seem to do the jump over the fence on crash, I scrim a lot at high skill levels so being able to do it would be really useful to me since crash is the main map my team plays on.

I practiced it over and over again and just can't do it, but when watching demos I see people doing it first time with ease; I mimic their exact mouse movements but still it doesn't work for me. I have 125 fps running when i do it incase that helps.

Please if anyone can help me understand how this jump works it would be a huge help to me.

If you dont know what jump I'm talking about find it here:

I did it first time aswell. Apparently you're just doing it wrong.

Can you strafe ? If so, you must strafe jump + sprint against the object. What I did is jump at the last moment and I got on it.

EDIT: Without 125FPS might I add :)

I never used to be able to do it, but the trick is you have to jump later than you'd expect to, otherwise you cannot get all the way up the crate.

A second person who confirms that jumping as late as possible is best.

You can also add me on x-fire if you desperately want it sorted.

Its basicly same here as it is with gapjumping.. Its better to jump too late on occasion, then to jump too soon constantly. It doesnt matter if u just run up to it without jumping a few times, itll be much easyer to correct it when u KNOW your timing is wrong... Its hard to know if u jump to soon if ur not familair with those types of jumps.

You guys have been so helpfull, so were the guys on that server you gave me. I think I have the hang of strafe jumping (got to the end of the 300 jump set) but I still can't get the hang of that jump on crash... think ill add you on xfire :\

Just as I added Zaitsef to xfire I managed to get the hang of it, I can now do it 50% of the time but I'll be perfecting it :) thanks so much guys, you have been a great help

For those of you still struggling with it all I can say is this: there are many methods of doing this jump, but the one thats working for me is turning my left side to the crate and strafe jumping onto it while hugging into the wall keeping sprint held in the whole time, just remember to jump a little later than you expect. Good Luck :)

So must you be on the horizontal crate at all? Or are you flushed against the vertical crate when you strafe-jump? I've spent 2 hours at this and made it once, and that was when i was mashing my buttons in frustration.

Also, have you guys thought of making a karaoke-like strafe explanation, you know, the red ball bounces over the key strokes in rhythm. I have the keys down, but not the rhythm or the mouse swing.

btw, you can do this jump on almost any fps.
I did it on 40, so it just requires practice.

Also for climbing the wall next to it, you need 112+
