Why is this research even taking place?KillerSam wrote:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-21322183A study of Google searches has found "significant discrimination" in advert results depending on the perceived race of names searched for.
Harvard professor Latanya Sweeney said names typically associated with black people were more likely to produce ads related to criminal activity.
She found that names like Leroy, Kareem and Keisha would yield advertisements that read "Arrested?", with a link to a website which could perform criminal record checks.
It is so pointless. Who searches "Leroy" and stumbles across an advert for a Lawyer and thinks "just what I was looking for".

He was courteous about it, to be fair to the guy... no matter how wrong the reasoning. He stated he had been misled, he apologised and gave a reason that many people share - still a prick move however.KillerSam wrote:Galloway wimps out of debate with Israeli student after being 'misled' over opponent's nationality

But also, what level of bias was in that room? A student debate, in a student hall is not ever going to be a good idea.

The dilemma of punishment and reform - you make the prison too harsh an environment and you get gangs and re-offending criminals, you create it too cushy and it no longer feels like a punishment.Pedsdude wrote:http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2013/ ... ike-people

Reading this article makes me sick.
1. He looked at him funny, therefore she deserves to get a punch.
2. He says he did not mean to cause any serious harm (seriously?)
3. He received 2 sentences, yet they run concurrently... why? They should run consecutively.
4. There is no mention of compensations paid.

Probably the biggest breakthrough in HIV - reduced to fourth most important story behind Queen, cardinals and the tories.

Shame it was ruined by the presence on Joey Barton and John Prescott - both advocating violence.
Also, can't help but think it would've been twice as funny however if this "Jimmy" opened the door and was a heavyweight kickboxer or something.

I have seen similar with a bunch of crackheads chase a dealer on his bike. When the guy stopped he started pulling packets of shit out from around his gums. Not quite as many as this, maybe about 5 or 6.KillerSam wrote:http://www.west-midlands.police.uk/late ... sp?ID=4455INCREDIBLE CCTV footage has been released by West Midlands Police showing drug users flocking after a dealer’s car in scenes described as being like “excited children pouncing on an ice-cream vanâ€.
