It is not tourism that is dying, it is poor marketting and cost.

People think "more people, lets put the money up", instead of thinking "more competition, lets be competitive".
When you are charging £500 per night for a room in a hotel, you are NOT targetting tourists, you are targetting millionaires.
The people coming over to view the games are not all rich oil owning managers, they are mostly normal people with average paying jobs.

So, you want to travel by bus, £2.30 per trip (no short-distance fees), oh you have your two 12 year old children with you... unfortunately, no free travel for kids without an oyster card, £2.30 please. So for a family of four to travel by bus, its nearly £10.00.
You may need to go a little further, £4.30 ech on the tube.
Might be better off going by Black Cab, thats only 70p a minute...
How about a trip round the london eye (30 minutes) - £150 for the family.
