Skype sound problem

I never used to have any problems with skype and sound but recently my friends who i go on skype with often are complaining that sometimes my mic will pick up background noise and it will sound louder than my voice, and that my mic also makes loud irritating noises. Im not sure that i have changed any sound settings recently . Does anyone know why this is happening?

I think I had a similar issue like this before and this is what fixed it for me :

Go to control panel and click on Sound.
Then go to the Recording tab and see which one is the mic you're using.
Once you found that, disable everything else that shows a volume symbol next to it.
