Windows 7 preorder?

Post by Luke » July 18th, 2009, 7:01 pm

Hey, i've just noticed windows 7 available for preorder and is released on the 22nd of October. Just wanted to know your opinions on it and if you're gonna get it?

The reviews look good, and i'm quite tempted especially with the offer prices right now. But i'm not sure whether to go for the home or the pro version. Pro has a few more features, like the XP compatibility mode, but it's £90 as opposed to £50 for the home edition.

It's on offer on ebuyer.com atm up to £130 cheaper than what it was, and it's also selling thick and fast so I wonder if now would be the best time to go for it? :?

I know I haven't used Windows 7 near as extensively as a lot of other members on the forum but I loved it. It was everything Vista should have been and a little bit more. The only thing that was lacking was compatibility with a lot of stuff. I'm worried that will also be the case on release (after all it is a Microsoft operating system) so I think I'm going to wait at least until December or maybe January of 2010 to get it.

I like it - improved a lot to Vista. In my opinion is the new taskbar really great once you are used to it. But I don't need to buy it because I get it for free via msdnaa - students for the win :)

Nice to see you again, Luke :)

I personally won't be preordering it. Whenever new operating systems come out I have pretty much zero incentive to get the new one - I tend to wait until I upgrade my PC. The way I see it, Vista works fine for me at a reasonable pace, and it's not worth me paying money and going through the effort in order to reap the benefits.

I've been using it since RC was released, and I've been loving it :D, great change from XP, I never used Vista. I've had only 2 compatibility issues, Call of Juarez Bound In Blood, and CoD4 PB issue, other than that it's been great, tbh I'd be happy if they packaged the RC and sold it as is, I'm on build 7201(64 bit).

Thanks :) i'm reasonably happy with xp apart from a few niggles, but i've just been using it so long i feel like it's time for a change. I've never had to buy one (don't ask) but if i had to i'd probably go for windows 7.

Thats also my main concern, for which i'm thinking i'll not be preordering it. Just hope the price doesn't rocket if/when i do go for it!

I haven't had any compatibility issues with win7 - if any driver wouldn't work then just run it under compatibility mode or use the XP-Emulator which was released.

Can you run CoD1 with windows 7? We're kind of looking for a new OS too, we just bought a new hard disc and want to start off good, and windows 7 is interesting, but not if cod1 is too old for it.

Probably a good idea for the pre order if you're sure you wanna get it:

Good to know..think i'm going for the home premium version, as the pro is nearly twice as much, and the only extra feature i was interested in was the xp compatibility mode. But i can just install xp with vmware if needed :)
